Egialis and Tholaria, where we stayed for a couple of weeks

So many churches!

Part of the charm of the villages here comes for a big part from the fact that cars have to remain outside. Streets are too narrow and with steps. Beautiful! The price to pay is to have to carry loads by hand or using these beautiful donkeys, carrying everything for the local stores or even construction materials.

Beautiful Chora

Love the monochromatic architecture of the Cyclades

Traditional Greek coffee

Chora and it’s old windmills
The site of a famous scene of "the big blue movie"! with the minuscule St Anna church. from there The Monastery of Hozoviotissa becomes visible.
It is the second oldest in Greece (built in 1017) It is literally hanging on the cliff side 300 m above the sea, 40m high and 5m width.

St Anna church

The only stairs leading to the inside. Even narrower than it looks!

You can barely see the Monastery up there but it’s the best way to realize how incredible this location is!

The view from the East shows how narrow the whole building is (5 m inside)
I rented a scooter and traveled on every road of this 125 km² island, with a population of about 2000

The rugged scenery of Amorgos

Got found of the almost deserted village of Asfontilitis.

Stone water cisterns in Asfontilitis

Goat on Nikouria Island

Very unique traditional roof/ceiling construction

Free wandering goats with Nikouria Island in the background

Amorgos scenery is mostly bare rocks. And thousands of km of dry stone walls delimiting implausible parcels.

Sunset at Agios Pavlos Beach
Katapola & beyond

Greeks and tourists don’t seem shy around the myriad of small churches

Such a unique restaurant!

The town of Katapola from the cliffs of Ancient Minoa. It was one of the most important centers of human life and activity on Amorgos throughout prehistoric times and was originally the summer residence of Cretan king Minos.
