This time i've decided to use my car instead of the motorcycle. It will be really cold in Montana and i'll be more comfortable sleeping in the car. I still had plenty of adventures :)

I had to drive hundreds of miles to find smokeless skies! Nice camping spot for the first night though

No filter, just the smoke from the fires around

Since grandiose scenery all around me is almost invisible with the smoke, let’s focus on smaller things instead 🙂

At the gates of Glacier Park but what’s the point in getting in with all that smoke? Change of plans!

Welcome to Yellowstone and its incredible colors!

Emblematic of Montana

So hard to capture the scale of this superb canyon

“The hydrothermal features of Yellowstone are magnificent evidence of Earth’s volcanic activity. Amazingly, they are also habitats in which microscopic organisms called thermophiles—“thermo” for heat, “phile” for lover—survive and thrive.”

Bill & Mary’s house by the river and their warm hospitality

Bill loaned me his KTM 640. This is Virginia City

Although most of the houses are in pristine condition in Montana, some older charming buildings remain.

We went super early across the river in the hope to capture a huge moose that had be seen the day before. No luck!

Smoke has cleared so I’ve headed back to Glacier NP. A glorious morning was my reward.

Suddenly getting out of the clouds and reaching pure air, bright light and sharp summits was a unforgettable experience.

Saint Mary Lake

I resumed the trip on this dirt road until reaching a crest where I saw a very colorful sunrise. I stopped to take a picture, and that’s when I heard sounds that made me feel like if I was in a jungle!

There were coyotes of course, but also the roar of elk bulls in rut and something that sounded like monkeys that I think came from the females. I saw dozens of elks at the border of the woods and the grass. In the dim light of dawn I could sense their nervousness. But I did not see any fight, even though you can see 5 bulls in one of the pictures. I kept watching, absolutely fascinated! When the sun finally rose above the crest they slowly went up and disappeared in the forest. Moments like that fulfill you for the day...

Pronghorns. My friend Bill told me that their closest relative is the giraffe, which of course I could not believe! Turns out that Bill is right. Again.
